One of life's few certainties is that every few months, the internet will erupt with discourse over personal hygiene.
From whether or not people wash their legs in the shower to how often they bathe their children, social media means that — for better or worse — we now have a completely unfiltered insight into the world’s cleansing habits.
And on Saturday, NFL star Jason Kelce kicked off the latest debate when he shared his belief that it is only “necessary” to wash “hot spots” on your body regularly.
It all started when somebody tweeted: “Jason Kelce looks like he doesn't wash his legs or feet,” and Jason quote-tweeted them to ask: “What kind of weirdo washes their feet….”

Somebody then replied: “Fun fact - there was a ‘study’ done where they measured the amount of bacteria between those who actively scrub/wash their legs/feet, vs those who didn’t and there was more bacteria on those who actively washed their legs/feet.”
But Jason seemingly wasn’t too concerned with the validity of the claims in this tweet. Instead, he reposted it to his 616k X followers and added: “Let em know, from the rooftop.”

He then boldly claimed: “All of you have been fed diabolical lies that washing every crevice of your bodies and hair, all the time is somehow better or healthier. Any dermatologist not in bed with Big Soap will agree!! Hot spots are all that is necessary and actually leads to cleaner healthier skin.”

Jason’s choice to use the term “diabolical lies” was seemingly a nod to his fellow football star Harrison Butker’s controversial speech about women being homemakers, which sparked controversy last month.
And Jason’s tweet caused a pretty big stir of its own, with it being viewed more than four million times as thousands of other X users flocked to share their response.
Some were particularly concerned with Jason’s stance because of his incredibly active profession, with the star announcing his retirement from football earlier this year.
“So wait a minute…when you had football games and sometimes they can get muddy, what happens if you’re covered in mud? Do you wash your whole body or just those spots?” one follower asked, to which Jason clarified: “I mean obviously if there is visible filth and dirt and mud I’ll scrub that off.”

And Jason even ended up specifying what he considers to be a “hot spot” after somebody replied: “great way of telling the world you dont wash your ass.”
Dude, I said hot spots, your ass is definitely a hot spot. Ass, Balls and Pits, that’s it

“Dude, I said hot spots,” Jason retorted. “Your ass is definitely a hot spot. Ass, Balls and Pits, that’s it.”
And while some shared their hope that Jason was simply trolling in the quote tweets, most expressed their dismay at his confession.
However, a few of Jason's followers were quick to share their agreement with his tweet, with one even winning his approval by replying: “He is so real for this. tits, pits and naughty bits are hot spots for the ladies.”

Another popular response called out people “who smell so aggressively of just *soap* that it would make your eyes water.”
