The GameCube’s retro styling lives on in this customized PS5 DualSense controller

Following the 30th anniversary versions of the PlayStation 5 featuring an old-school gray colorway, Killscreen has announced a customized version of the PlayStation 5’s DualSense controller called the CubeSense, which comes with a purple shell and custom joysticks inspired by the Nintendo GameCube.

Killscreen’s customized controllers are all based on a standard DualSense Wireless Controller, so while the CubeSense pairs a matte purple shell on the front with a transparent one on the back, its red, green, and light gray face buttons don’t match the unusual button layout Nintendo used for the GameCube’s gamepads.

But for a starting price of $149, Killscreen has swapped out the standard DualSense’s joysticks for versions that closely resemble what the GameCube’s controller used, including the yellow stick with a small nub that was used to control the camera in games. Unlike the asymmetrical layout of the sticks on the GameCube’s controller, the CubeSense’s analog sticks sit side by side.

Killscreen offers additional customizations for the CubeSense. For $169, you can opt to swap out the DualSense’s standard triggers and bumpers with clicky alternatives that have shorter travel to improve response times while playing FPS games. You can also opt to upgrade the DualSense’s rubber membrane face buttons with microswitches so they have more of a clicky feel when pressed for $169, but if you want all of the controller’s buttons upgraded, that pushes the CubeSense’s price tag to $179.
