Verizon’s mobile services are down across the country

Verizon is experiencing a huge outage affecting its mobile services across the country.

“During the incident we received reports from Clermont, Naples, Ocala, St. Petersburg, Decatur, Carmel, Cloverdale, Indianapolis, Caldwell, Ottawa, Shawnee, Lexington, Louisville, Wentzville, Elizabeth, Dallas, Houston, McGaheysville, Keyser, Chillicothe and 53 other cities,” according to a website tracking the outage.

There are also more than 90,000 user reports of problems on Downdetector. Downdetector’s outage map shows hotspots in many places, including New York and Atlanta. Based on that map, it appears as if the outages are more prevalent on the East Coast.

Verizon is replying to multiple people expressing complaints to its support account on X, though from the posts I’ve seen, the account hasn’t explicitly confirmed an outage or service issues or where any problems might be more prevalent. Many users are reporting to that account that their phones are in SOS Mode.

“We are aware of an issue impacting service for some customers,” Verizon spokesperson Ilya Hemlin says in a statement to The Verge. “Our engineers are engaged and we are working quickly to identify and solve the issue.”

Update, September 30th: Added Verizon statement.
